I am shocked to see this many negative reviews! The negative reviews trick you; try for yourself if you visit area! I went to this place twice while I was visiting Myrtle Beach. Service was amazing Jennifer and Alex were very attentive and pleasant. Food : pulled pork platter with Mac and cheese and fries were delicious! Coleslaw yet small was a perfect two bites. My friend had ribs with beans and fries. Ribs were moist and fell off the bone. Great with or without the sauce. If you have kids it is a must to try the smores dessert. So much fun! Best part of the place was the moonshine drinks. Look forward to going again next month when I visit SC !

Ok, I travel all over and follow yelp reviews almost every time I can when choosing a new restaurant, but I have to tell you the 2 stars are so undeserving for this spot. I'm not sure what the others were looking for but the service and food here was better than most in the Boardwalk area. Wings were amazing, the GM even sold us some of the "secret" rub to take home at an unbelievably low cost. I will agree that it is a bit tucked away but there is plenty of parking and easy access. And again, plenty of great food choices and well deserving of 4 stars from any true BBQ fan. I'm giving them 5 stars in hopes that others give them a chance and prove the 2 star review wrong.

Color me not impressed. Ordered take out. The ribs were decent but no sauce provided. None. Made for uninteresting ribs. Other sides were pre-prepared and meh. Ordered a side salad and asked for extra tomatoes because my daughters wouldn't eat their sides. Made that clear. Guy said no problem. Side salad had NO tomatoes. Was iceberg, some cheese, and two onion slices. Ordered a beer while I was waiting and bartender stiffed me on some change. Did he think it was a guaranteed gratuity? Typical tourist trap. We are here every year. On to the next trap, I guess

The pulled pork BBQ sandwich I ordered was good and my husband enjoyed his burger and seasoned fries. My hush puppies were tasty but a little overdone. The service was very friendly but very slow. Really slow. That's why I can only give it 3 stars.

Our experience was average! We had a party of 7 and the guy at the door told us it would be a 25 min wait. We didn't mind waiting since there were other stores around to browse in to help kill the time. When we got called that they were ready for us, we walked in and there were at least 10 tables completely empty, which left us wondering why we waited so long for a table. Our server was average; made sure our drinks were filled and brought chips to try the sauces. The food was good; typical BBQ. Nothing extra special; I've had better. We were able to use the 15% off in the coupon booklets that are sitting all over Myrtle Beach. If you decide to eat here, definitely request to sit on the patio. There is a gorgeous view of the water and a marina (we didn't know about this seating around until we finished dinner).

Very good food. Ribs were very tender. Service was excellent. Would go back in a heart beat.

Terrible. This is not a true BBQ place. They do have pulled pork, chicken and ribs, but no brisket, no sausage. Shrimp were fried, not barbecue. Sweet potato fries were covered in cinnamon and sugar, and cooked far too long. The pulled pork sandwich was small, and the meat dry. The coleslaw that comes as a side was served in a tiny cup - the size that most places put salad dressing in. They charge you $.50 to get pickles on your sandwich. Service was terrible. The barbecue sauce bottles that were brought to the table were filthy, with dried sauce all over the tips of the bottles. The only upside was the moonshine cocktails. We had the Black Betty and Caramel Apple. Both were delicious - but hardly any alcohol. Avoid this place.

Excellent customer service! I would not call this traditional Carolina BBQ, but it was still very good. We had the pulled pork sliders and paired it with the Sweet and Sassy BBQ as recommended from the waitress/bartender. It was delicious!! Also great was the pulled pork nachos, pulled pork quesadilla, and hush puppies served with honey butter. Friendly and helpful staff, coupled with affordability, make this a great stop!

Great BBQ - only reason I gave it 4 stars is cole slaw is soooooo sweet - really takes away from BBQ - sauces all good and great beer selections. Service excellent - walked around Barefoot Landing and then found this place. Hubby loved pulled pork. Floor a little slippery when it rains - be careful. But Brunswick stew was awesome - and beans are to die for!

Looking at the reviews I figured this place would be a very average place, but for a party of 7, 3 of which are kids we all walked away stuffed and happy! There's coupon in the Monster coupon book for 15% off which was a bonus on already decent average prices. Not outrageous prices for barefoot landing. Definitely recommend.

STAY AWAY!!! The food is awful and the service is worse!!! After reading the reviews we thought it would be a good choice for a quick dinner. Now my best guess is that the owners got their friends to write good reviews. When we arrived the host was dismissive and rude and made us wait 20 minutes to be seated when the Resturant was half empty. Then he took us to a clearly dirty table and got offended when I requested a clean table. Like that was an unreasonable request. When the food arrived it was barely eatable. The chili looked and tasted like dog food. The barberque was ok with plenty of sauce but no flavor on its own. My bread was too tough to chew and was left on the plate. We paid $40 for 2 people and will be going to McDonald's on the way home. Save your money and avoid this Resturant!

Horrible! Save your time and money. I should have known from the start when I had to call back three times to get sufficient directions. The food took way to long to come out only to arrive over cooked, green beans were oily and salty, mac and cheese cold and hard, and the ribs were soggy! The food tasted like it had been sitting around all day. The service was okay, waitress apologetic, and it wasn't her fault. Shrimp was good too. Way over priced! Go somewhere else.

My sister, a Northern transplant, claims that her SC MB born and raised coworker dubbed Smokin' Hot BBQ as some of the best BBQ he's had. I raised my eyebrows when I walked in because it didn't really embody the look or feel that I imagined a true southern barbecue joint to have. It looked a bit generic, if not a little soulless if I was completely honest. Regardless, my entire family of 10 sat down at one of their tables and looked over their menu. Not a brisket in sight, nor anything that really resembled my idea of giant southern BBQ portions. As a New Yorker, I've been to a lot of bbq restaurants in the city, and they all do this butcher counter style dining experience. I wasn't sure if that was typical of the south, but to me it rang true. The menu at Smokin' Hot was limited. Each entree came with two sides of your choosing. Four of use decided to split 2 racks of ribs and 4 sides of mac n cheese, hush puppies, slaw and more hush puppies. Despite feeling like a chain restaurant, Smokin' Hot did some BANGING ribs! Fall off the bone, with a smoke taste. The dry rub was amazing! They were easily some of the best ribs I've had. Smokin Hot also offers 4 different bbq sauces but none of them really paired well with the ribs. The hush puppies were another thing to hail. They were buttery and soft on the inside, but super crispy and crunchy on the outside. Limited menu aside, the ribs here were superb. Smokin' Hot can definitely think to round out their menu some more. My dad ordered a sandwich that he didn't end up liking so much. The other sides we ordered (french fries, slaw) were pretty forgettable. There is a lot of potential to Smokin Hot, but I definitely expected more out of a true southern bbq restuarant.

I don't know why this place has only 2 stars, we loved it here. Super friendly staff that chatted with us about where we were from, and made great food recommendations. Prices were decent too! I actually liked that they give you the pulled pork/chicken without sauce on it, because then you can doll it up with one of their 4 sauces. My only complaint is that I really wish they served cornbread.

Service was excellent! I just wish the food matched. We ordered the guacamole. Even store bought guac tastes better than this. And the homemade tortilla chips were rubbery. I got the taco trio. The chicken was OK. The pork was pretty tasty. My two sides were the hush puppies and Brunswick stew. The stew was OK and the puppies were good. My friend got the pulled pork platter. The choice of sauces was good if you like vinegar based. She got the puppies and fried corn. I've had better fried corn. Only reason we'd come back is for the service and the hush puppies.

Great $3 margaritas for happy hour. Apps were great too. Everything tasted fresh and hot. Our waitress Jennifer was so good and all staff was friendly. Great place if you are going to Barefoot Landing!

Worst Ribs ever. Worst service ever. I'm pretty sure our server was either normally a bus boy or the summer seasonal help. He didn't know the menu. He didn't check up on us, get us refills, etc... He only had one other table. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was dead. He was also bussing a couple tables and then he took out the trash, I just hope he washed his hands afterwards. I don't think the restaurant employs a designated bus boy for cleaning, I did see other servers cleaning up their tables after customers left. That was kinda gross. The food was not good. My wife's pulled pork was dry. My ribs were WAY over cooked. If you are at all familiar with and expect KCBS standard quality ribs, you will not get them here. The wouldn't even stay together, there was no texture to them at all. They completely fell apart into a pile of mush. Ribs that fall off the bone are technically over cooked and these had it bad. They had a smoke ring and a smoke aroma so I know they were smoked at one point. The rub was a paste and came off all over my fingers as opposed to stay on and in the meat. The thin end of the rack was completely dried out and I left 1/4 of the rack on the table when we left, which I have never done before. If I had to guess, they were kept warm after smoking in a steaming warmer with a water pan. That would continue to cook them after smoking and account for the pasty rub. The sauces were all OK, if you like tangy Carolina vinegar and mustard based sauces. None of them were particularly sweet if you prefer sweeter BBQ sauces.

I don't know why the review for this place is so low either. We were skeptical also. Therefore we started out with the sampler(ribs and 2 sliders + dab size of slaw). This was very good. So we ordered 3 sliders(2 chicken & 1 pulled pork). There were also very good. Except for the dab of slaw, we did not have any sides. I am rating the BBQ meat. The slaw is perfect for tartness and amount for the sliders; and freshly made. You get 6 BBQ sauces to use as desired. Margaritas were $4 & $5; a very good price. Good too. Our server, Verneice ( Neicy) was attentive, smiling & efficient. Water view on one side and a parking lot on the other side. The interior is modern with booths along the walls. The bathroom was very clean & the sink water gets hot. It's ironic when I see signs telling workers they must wash their hands using soap & warm water & the facet water is ice cold no matter how long it runs. We were here for lunch. Give this place a try.

Called ahead , seated right away, waiter extremely nice. I ordered loaded burrito and was very pleased the waiter talked me into it. It had pulled chicken, cole slaw, baked beans and bbq sauce, sounds awful but really good. We had 9 people with 2 being children and all were very pleased. Definitely will go again next year.

I'm not sure why this place has such poor reviews. I recently visited here on a Thursday night just after the peak season in MB (Sept). Smokin' Hot is located conveniently in Barefoot Landing. While it only had a few other tables when we went in, this did not scare us off. Our server (Eugena?) was extremely attentive and friendly. She made good recommendations to our table for what we should try, and the recommendations were on point. Our group tried the homemade hush puppies, pulled chicken, pulled pork burrito, and chicken tenders. They were all flavorful, fresh, and went well with the various choices of sauce. The sides were ok - beans, mac & cheese, and sweet potato fries (dusted with cinnamon) were all a hit, while the slaw and potato salad were meh. Along with the good attention from our server, we were also checked upon by a manager. While a naysayer will assume this was because they were not busy, I do not doubt that our server would have treated us the same way. The prices were reasonable and the portion sizes were generous. I have eaten at a few other spots in Barefoot Landing as well as many other spots along the strip and I would not hesitate recommending Smokin' Hot to other MB visitors.

We were here on a Monday evening. We had a large party of 8. We were told by the hostess that the wait would be 15-20 minutes. Wow a short wait for a big party like we had, we were sold! 55 minutes later, we were still waiting for a table. Sounded like a bait and switch to keep us sticking around so we wouldn't go elsewhere.

Decent pulled pork, with South Carolina-style sauce. Hush puppies were excellent, and the cinnamon sugar butter was a treat. Staff was friendly and the $4 margarita was a nice touch.

This place was so awesome that I'm still craving it six months later! We went during the week one day in June and were seated immediately. There was plenty of space in the dining room (we went at an odd time) but we chose to sit on the back porch to enjoy the peaceful waterfront view. I got the BBQ burrito, which was delicious after adding just a little extra sauce (far better that way than being served with too much sauce imo). I also tried their caramel apple moonshine drink and it was absolutely incredible and jump started my love of moonshine based drinks! I can't wait to go back again in June!

We decided to try this place tonight and we had a less than enjoyable experience. We sat down right away as the dining room wasn't crowded. Someone came over right away to take our drink order but then we waited 15-20 minutes for someone to return to take our order. Like the previous reviews we had several different severs none of which were attentive. The BBQ was flavorless and mushy. The black bean burger was terrible and tasted like charred puréed beans. FYI extra dressings are an extra 65 cents without any warning. After we expressed to one of the servers that the food was just okay, our table got dirty looks and stares from the staff. We saw another table that had to go to the bar for their check because no one every came back to serve them. If I could give 1/2 a star I would and I wouldn't recommend this place to any one!!

I suggested this place based on a 5-star review by another patron, although I was a little hesitant about it because that was the only review posted at the time. I figured we were in trouble when we walked in to be seated and the place was less than half full (this was during the dinner hour in peak vacation season). Unfortunately, my suspicions were soon realized. It took 50 minutes to get our food. When it finally did arrive, the taste left a lot to be desired. The service and attentiveness were just as lacking as the taste of the food. I would definitely NOT recommend dining at this establishment.

So this is apparently a new resturant since March '13. BBQ is quite good, numerous sauces at the table to suit your taste in BBQ. Out of 8 of us, including 3 kids, only one didn't really care for their main course. Salads were a little small, but "only" $2.95 Service was pretty good but looked a little hectic, perhaps a little short staffed that day, but is was mid summer, so fairly normal. Overall would eat again.

Best advice I can give anyone about this HORRIBLE PLACE, is keep walking past and enjoy one of the several hundred wonderful restaurants Myrtle Beach has to offer. That being said, one afternoon we went to Smokin Hot to drink a margarita and have an appetizer. Never should have sat down because the employees were sitting everywhere and the place was empty at lunch time. My wife ordered a mango margarita and I ordered a lime margarita. Upon receiving the drinks, we quickly informed the server that hers was NOT mango and indeed the same sub standard cheap pre mixed lime like I had. The server asked if my wife would like a glass of water and never offered to correct this drink order. The full drink sat on the table through our one hour lunch. I asked for our check and guess what? That margarita my wife never ordered or wanted was on my bill. Now, margaritas are suppose to be a $4.00 lunch special however it was marked at $4.50. I called over the server to let her know my displeasure about paying for something I didn't order or want and the server told me she already spoke to the woman manager and I would have to pay for it. no questions asked. As I informed the server that I would like to talk to the manager because I didn't want to pay for something that we DID NOT ORDER, the server sent her to our table. This irate NASTY female so-called afternoon manager was so unprofessional an told me I had no choice but to pay for this drink or she would call the North Myrtle Beach Police and have me arrested.. what a joke. Guess what she did? this unprofessional manager of Smokin Hot BBQ actually called the Police regarding this $4.50 drink. This unprofessional manager actually followed us around Bearfoot Landing until the police caught up to my car as I was leaving. The police pulled us over and gave me a option, either pay for this drink that I did not order or be arrested on the spot. We'll my wife has been involved in the restaurant business for over 40 years and has never seen or heard of anything so ridiculous in her life.. SO JUST KEEP WALKING PAST SMOKIN HOT BBQ in Barefoot Landing in N.Myrtle Beach, SC.

Fast food quality with slow service and restaurant prices. You want some slop smothered in ketchup that was warmed up in the microwave then stop here. I will not be back. From the appearances outside and in, the place looks great, but beware of the slop.

  • Chris P.

Margaritas are nothing but sour mix, pulled pork tacos were sub par and the hush puppies are tasteless! There was something gross and unrecognizable in one of my wife's tacos that disgusted her enough to keep her from eating them.....def won't be coming back. The only decent thing was the service-our waitress Caitlin was friendly and prompt, hence the two stars.
